    Dr David Farrant: developing airborne remote sensing of water depth

    Dr David Farrant has developed sensors and instruments for measuring coin dies, extruded materials, castings, road-surface cracking, offset printing press optimisation, internal combustion engines, transducers, protective coatings on steel, and precision optics such as ultra narrow-band filters for solar astronomy.

    Probing the depths of coastal waters: opto-acoustic underwater remote sensing

    CSIRO researchers are developing an airborne remote-sensing instrument for measuring water depths even when the water is turbid. The technology is likely to find applications in environmental planning and monitoring, mapping of dredging operations, oil and mineral exploration, pipeline location, and security monitoring.
